Introduction

DNS (Domain Name System) gives instructions to your domain name — for example, where to send your email, where to locate your website, and other important services. A nameserver is the system that stores and manages your DNS records.

We recommend, where possible, using Hipposerve’s DNS. We provide a unique and free DNS backup service that protects your online visibility and an easy-to-use DNS management interface. To use our DNS, you simply need to point your nameservers to us.

If Your Domain is with Another Provider

If your domain is registered with a third-party provider and you do not wish to transfer it, you can still use Hipposerve DNS by updating your nameservers.

Log in to your current registrar’s control panel, go to the nameserver settings, and change them to the following:

  • ns4.hipposerve.net
  • ns5.hipposerve.net
  • ns6.hipposerve.net

After DNS propagation (up to 24 hours), your domain will be using Hipposerve’s DNS. For a step-by-step guide, see DNS Management Guide.

If You Transfer Your Domain to Hipposerve

When you transfer a domain to Hipposerve, it will usually continue pointing to its old nameservers. You can switch it to Hipposerve’s DNS by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Hipposerve Portal Dashboard.
  2. Select My Domains from the menu.



  3. Choose the domain you want to update and click Manage.



  4. From the left menu, select Nameservers.



  5. Choose Default Nameservers and press Change Nameservers.




Alternatively, you can set your own Custom Nameservers if required. Please note: any nameserver changes can take up to 24 hours to take effect.

 

 

If You Registered Your Domain with Hipposerve

If your domain was registered directly with Hipposerve, there’s nothing you need to do. It will already be using our nameservers by default.

If you ever need to change the nameservers in the future, you can do so from the Custom Nameservers option in your domain’s settings.
